Logan has always been a loyal companion, whether it was to his furry family or the forever family he would eventually find. Found as a stray in Texas with his pregnant mate, Logan stayed by her side as she gave birth to their puppies. A rescue organization took in the mom and her six puppies but left Logan behind to be euthanized.
A Last-Minute Miracle

Logan’s fate seemed sealed until a compassionate shelter worker in the Texas high-kill shelter saw something special in him. She managed to delay his euthanasia twice, buying enough time to transport Logan to a shelter in Colorado. There, Logan was adopted by a wonderful couple.
“We went to meet him and I remember walking away, like, so we just met our dog. He was skinny, scared, timid, and all those things,” Alison Dickson, Logan’s new mom, shared with GeoBeats Animals.
Finding His Confidence

In his new home, Logan was initially shy and fearful, worried about making mistakes that could get him abandoned again. His new parents, nature lovers living in Colorado, decided to take him hiking. This was a turning point for Logan. His confidence grew as he realized he had found his forever family.
“He is such a great athlete. He knows when my hiking bag comes out and he just gets excited,” Alison said.
The Family Protector

The family expanded, rescuing another dog named Phoenix and two cats, Milo and Lucy. “Phoenix is the snuggliest little ball of sunshine that has no idea that she’s a rescue at all,” Alison added. Logan and Phoenix became fast friends, and even the cats were embraced.
When Alison’s husband is away on business trips, Logan takes on the role of protector. “He loves him so much. It’s almost like Logan thinks he works for my husband. When my husband is traveling, Logan will be sleeping on the side of the couch that faces the door. He’s going to be a little bit more aware of everything, and a lot more watchful when my husband is not there,” Alison explained.

Alison often compares Logan to Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, a true protector with deep feelings. Since his adoption, Logan has experienced so much, sniffing and exploring new places. He is finally a happy dog.
“From a stray on the streets of Texas, to the EUTHANASIA list in a shelter (💔!!), to the wonderful people and rescue that got him to us…my world is a tremendously better place for having Logan in it,” Alison wrote in an Instagram post.
