When Lilah, a bright-eyed puppy, was adopted from the Animal House Shelter in Huntley, Illinois, on June 2, 2024, the joy was palpable. Both Lilah and the shelter staff were over the moon, excited for the new chapter in her life.
But that joy was short-lived. Less than a month later, Lilah found herself back in the cold confines of her kennel. The reason? Her owners couldn’t handle potty training her.
Tabitha, a devoted shelter worker, couldn’t hide her sadness—and frustration—when she explained why Lilah was returned so soon. “They knew she wasn’t potty trained when they adopted her,” Tabitha shared with Newsweek. “Her foster family had already mentioned that she was having a few accidents each day. But she’s a puppy—she needs training, patience, and consistency.”
