Most of us start our days never imagining we’ll end up being heroes. That’s exactly how it was for a Good Samaritan working on a property in Philadelphia, expecting just another routine day.
But while working, they noticed a discarded trash bag with something moving inside. Rushing over and tearing open the bag, they made a shocking discovery.

Inside the bag was a white and tan Pittie in terrible condition. The poor pup’s body was completely stiff; he couldn’t move his head or his feet. Heartbroken, the kind person gently placed him on a piece of cardboard, covering him with a blanket to keep him warm.
He called the local authorities and, while waiting, offered the pup some food. The Pennsylvania SPCA quickly responded, arriving to take the pup, later named Codi, to their facility.
Seeing Codi’s condition puzzled the vets. “What had happened to this poor soul? Why had he been discarded like trash?” the Pennsylvania SPCA shared in a Facebook post.
A New Beginning

Realizing Codi couldn’t stand on his paws, the vets conducted numerous tests, ensuring he was well-fed and hydrated. They began stretching and massaging his limbs, gently and patiently, helping him regain movement.
After some time, Codi stood up and took his first careful steps, bringing tears to his rescuers’ eyes. They knew these steps meant Codi could live a normal life surrounded by loving humans. What they didn’t know was that this new chapter was just around the corner.
As the Pennsylvania SPCA spread the word about Codi, a loving family saw him and fell in love. Just one month after being found paralyzed in a trash bag, Codi found his forever home!
“The odds may have seemed against him, but he never gave up and last week, it all paid off when he found his forever home!” the Pennsylvania SPCA wrote on Facebook.
The SPCA staff were overjoyed. Codi’s determination and resilience were truly remarkable. Although still a bit wobbly, he was adopted and now lives the best life imaginable.
Final Word

While Codi’s happy ending is heartwarming, the fact that he was cruelly dumped in the first place is heartbreaking. Sometimes, humans can no longer care for their dogs, but abandoning them on the streets is never the answer. This is why shelters exist.
If his previous owners had surrendered Codi to a shelter, he would have recovered much faster and moved on in a healthier way. Being separated from their humans can take a toll on pups, but love and reassurance from shelter staff can make the process easier.
If you can no longer care for your pup, please don’t abandon it on the streets. Take it to a local shelter and offer it a second chance – they deserve it.
