The experience of being abandoned and thrust into the chaos of a shelter can be terrifying for dogs. Imagine the intense fear and confusion a once-beloved pet feels, navigating a world filled with strange noises, devoid of their favorite person, and shrouded in uncertainty.
Amid this turmoil, the shelter workers and volunteers are the only sources of solace for these frightened animals. Some dogs, like a Pittie mix named Andy Cohen, need all the comfort the shelter can offer.

Andy Cohen isn’t just a name for a famous radio and TV host; it’s also the name of a Pittie mix who found himself at the Tift County Animal Shelter in Tifton, Georgia. Andy was surrendered along with three other dogs in early November 2023 when their owner, returning to his truck driving job, could no longer keep them.
“They were heartbroken when they arrived, all huddled together and scared. Andy Cohen was shy, crying, and feeling abandoned,” shared Leah Robinson, the rescue coordinator at Tift County Animal Shelter, in an interview with Newsweek.
To encourage more adoptions and fostering, especially during the holidays, the shelter posted a video of sweet Andy Cohen seeking comfort from the staff. In the video, you can see Andy, clearly terrified and sad, clinging to an employee’s leg, desperate for love and reassurance.
A Thanksgiving Joy

Due to the stress and fear Andy was experiencing, the shelter decided to transfer him to Waldo’s Rescue Pen, their sister shelter in New York City, for a fresh start. “We wanted him to have a family that loves him,” Robinson explained.
Fortunately, their plan worked perfectly. When Waldo’s Rescue Pen shared Andy’s story, it touched many hearts. It didn’t take long for him to find his forever home, just in time for Thanksgiving. Now known as Buddy, he has found happiness with his new family in New York.
“We are so happy for Buddy and his family! Thank you for choosing Waldo’s Rescue,” the shelter announced in a joyous video. Buddy has not only adjusted to his new home but also has a furry friend to share his new life with.
To the wonderful family that adopted him – thank you! Please, never let him go.
