When this tiny pup was discovered on a decaying roof, the residents were stunned by how he ended up there. Scared, alone, and in dire need of help, the puppy had no idea how to escape his predicament. He lay there, hoping for a miracle. And that’s when the true spirit of humanity shone through!
The apartment complex residents didn’t hesitate. One of them contacted the dedicated team at Austin Animal Center, Texas, who sprang into action immediately.
Desperate and In Need of Rescue

Staci Figueroa and Erica Cerza arrived swiftly. These two animal protection officers were astounded when they saw the puppy sitting on the roof. He had wandered down the hallway of the complex and then, through the railing, ended up on the roof. The poor pup didn’t know how to find his way back!
The rescuers noticed a small, dangerous hole in the metal right next to the puppy. If he fell through, rescuing him would be nearly impossible. Staci and Erica knew they had to act quickly.

With the help of a resident, they removed one of the pickets from the fence that bordered the roof. Using a screwdriver, they carefully removed it, making the rescue easier. Once they had a clear path, Cerza reached for the puppy.
“With the help of a resident and her handy dandy screwdriver, our officers were able to remove one of the pickets from the fence and get the little guy out. Once he was safe, the picket was replaced as if nothing had happened,” the Austin Animal Center shared on Facebook.
Successful Rescue Mission

Once safely in Cerza’s arms, the puppy rested calmly. He showed no signs of fear but was clearly confused. Moments later, he began to play with Cerza’s hair, showing he had become more relaxed.
The rescuers then asked the apartment complex management to inform residents about the puppy in case someone was missing him. Unfortunately, no one came forward. The puppy was safely transferred to the facility and named Wicket.
In just a few days, Wicket emerged from his shell, revealing his playful and sweet nature. As a reward for his friendly attitude, he was given the ultimate gift – a loving new home!

Now, Wicket enjoys his days as a cherished companion, far from decayed roofs and uncertain tomorrows. His life is now filled with exciting adventures and boundless love, which is everything he could ever ask for!
