Being an animal rescuer is incredibly challenging, often leaving you heartbroken by the sheer cruelty inflicted on the dogs you save. Sometimes, these animals have minor injuries coupled with hunger and thirst, but other times, they are in severe pain, desperately pleading for help.
In this story, we focus on a dog whose face was swollen because of a chain that was too tight around his neck.
A Heartbreaking Sight

One day, a volunteer from R.A.D. Rescue was driving along a road in California when she noticed a dog nearby. She stopped, approached the dog, and noticed his face was unusually swollen. Upon closer inspection, she realized the heartbreaking cause: his head was swollen from a tight chain around his neck. The volunteer shared on TikTok, “His head was incredibly swollen from having a tight chain around his neck.”
Witnessing this level of cruelty on a defenseless dog is truly heart-wrenching, as he had done nothing to deserve such pain. Realizing he needed immediate help, the volunteer lured him into her car with some chicken.

The dog, now named Chunk the Hunk, was safely in her care, and they headed to the nearest veterinarian clinic in California for a full checkup. Despite likely being in significant pain, Chunk seemed to enjoy the ride.
Thankfully, the vet confirmed that Chunk’s swollen head was treatable, and with proper care, he would recover quickly. It’s incredible how much Chunk improved in such a short time.

As he began to heal, his rescuer focused on teaching him how to enjoy life, as he had spent so much of it in chains. Chunk started to show his outgoing personality, learning new things every day. The next step was to find him a new family.
Finding a forever home for Chunk wasn’t easy, but the team at R.A.D. Rescue was determined not to give up. Chunk’s patience and resilient spirit never wavered. After a few months, Chunk finally found his forever home, where he now lives his best life, thanks to his dedicated rescuer.
