Dogs thrive on family bonds and are happiest when spending time with their beloved humans, enjoying playful moments and affection. Fortunately, most people ensure their furry companions have everything they need and more. However, this isn’t always the case.

Some dogs end up in neglectful homes where owners fail to understand their importance to their pets. Today’s story centers on an adorable puppy who found himself in such an unfortunate situation.

One morning, the staff at Priest River Animal Rescue (PRAR), a non-profit animal rescue in Idaho, arrived to a heart-wrenching scene. An adorable Border Collie mix was tied to their donation shed.

“Physically, he was healthy, but emotionally he was frightened and confused, which made him snarl and growl at us,” said Barbara Grover, the president of the board of directors and volunteers, to Newsweek.

After earning the pup’s trust, the shelter staff named him Buddy and brought him inside the Idaho shelter. They managed to contact Buddy’s previous owner, who was heartbroken to learn that they no longer wanted him.

Buddy was placed in isolation, as per procedure, and is scheduled to be neutered soon.

Though Buddy is adjusting to shelter life, the staff is hopeful that his stay won’t be long. They are determined to find him a forever home where he will be loved and appreciated for who he is.

The PRAR staff believes Buddy would thrive in an active family that can offer plenty of love and attention, helping him forget his troubled past and embrace a brighter future.

“He is an active, friendly dog who loves to play fetch and is good with children,” Grover added.

The shelter emphasized that abandoning an animal in this manner is unacceptable. Grover explained that improper surrender not only disrespects the shelter and its employees but also complicates their work.

“In instances like this, where a proper surrender process is not followed, it not only creates chaos and risk, but also demonstrates a disregard for the safety and well-being of the animal in question. As a small facility with limited resources, such irresponsible actions can have a significant impact,” she stated.

Please remember that our furry friends view us as their closest family. Suddenly abandoning them leaves them extremely confused, depressed, and can even make them aggressive. If you can no longer care for your pet, take them to your local shelter and give them a proper goodbye.
