Dawn’s Dark Past

Dawn’s previous owners cruelly confined her in a crate outside, deprived of food, water, and protection from the elements. She was forced to birth litters of puppies, which were then used in dog fights. When authorities finally rescued Dawn, she was taken to Rockdale County Animal Shelter in Georgia.
Despite her horrific past, Dawn’s spirit remained unbroken. She showered her caregivers with love and quickly won their hearts. However, the shelter was overcrowded, and Dawn’s number was added to the euthanasia list.
Desperately Fighting For Her Life

With a desperate look in her eyes, Dawn would stand on her hind legs, pressing her body against the kennel door whenever someone passed by. She was begging for a second chance at life.
“She was begging for her life. But no one stepped up, and I’m guessing it was because of the way she looked. Maybe people thought she would be aggressive,” said Rosa Fond, the founder of Humans and Animals United, to The Dodo.
On the day of her scheduled euthanasia, Dawn hugged a shelter volunteer tightly, refusing to let go. The pup seemed to sense her fate had been sealed. She cuddled with the volunteer, pouring out her love.
A Plea for Help heartbroken by Dawn’s situation, a shelter staff member posted a plea for help on social media, urging the director to give Dawn another chance. Their efforts bought Dawn two more days at the shelter, during which she desperately needed a rescue.
Dawn’s Miraculous Rescue

Fortunately, a friend of Dawn’s at the shelter reached out to Humans and Animals United for help. The Florida-based rescue immediately stepped in and saved Dawn, pulling her from the shelter just in time. Once safe, Dawn was still sweet but needed time to decompress from her traumatic experiences.
Finding a Loving Foster Home
The rescue tirelessly searched for a foster family willing to take Dawn in. Their hard work paid off when a loving family opened their hearts and home to her. Upon arriving at her foster home, Dawn breathed a sigh of relief, knowing she had a second chance at life.
Malnourished and exhausted, Dawn’s foster family followed a strict feeding routine to help her regain her health. They showered her with love and caressed her as she slept, making her feel comfortable and safe.
Thriving in a Loving Environment

As Dawn’s health improved, her foster family encouraged her to explore the world around her. She began to admire the beauty of her surroundings and realized she was safe. Dawn’s appreciation and gratitude were evident in the way she looked at her foster family, her eyes filled with love.
One day, Dawn’s foster dad took her to a pet store, where she joyfully sniffed around until she chose the toys she wanted. “She picked her own toys. It was a heartwarming moment that brought tears to our eyes. The reason why we rescue was shown that day,” Fond added.
Dawn’s Hope for a Forever Home
Dawn continues to thrive in her foster home, surrounded by love and care. Although she deeply appreciates her foster family’s affection, she hopes to soon find her forever home, where she can give and receive unconditional love.
