They deserve to find joy and leave the perilous streets behind. This story is about Deputy, one of many homeless dogs wandering the streets, yearning for someone to love and care for him.
Deputy’s Journey to Love

Deputy’s quest for kindness led him to the Off The Grid Animal Sanctuary, a non-profit rescue in Texas. Though he was frightened and sad, he bravely approached the sanctuary gate.
Welcoming Deputy

The moment the sanctuary’s canine residents saw him, they started barking. Bionca Smith, the sanctuary’s founder, peered out the window and spotted a dog she had never seen before. He stood at the gate, hopeful that someone would rescue him.
Smith hurried to meet him. The first thing she noticed was his sorrowful expression. Given his size, she was initially cautious and unsure of how to react.
“I could tell he was looking for help, but his face was a little intimidating to me for a brief moment. I could’ve been afraid he’d bite me. He could’ve been afraid I’d hurt him, but because of the connection that comes with being at the right place at the right time … when you know, you know,” Smith shared on Instagram.
Smith felt a deep trust for this pup and began speaking to him gently, encouraging him to approach. The dog, soon named Deputy, felt an immediate connection to Smith and walked over, his tail wagging.
Her heart melted when he extended his paw, seeking help. She tenderly held his paw, honored by his trust. Deputy knew he had found the right place.
With his sweet gesture and soulful eyes, Deputy captured Smith’s heart. She welcomed him to the sanctuary and gave him a tour.
A New Friend Awaits

As a stray, Deputy needed to be quarantined before meeting the other dogs. However, one special pup couldn’t wait to greet him.
“Kumo is our guardian dog. [He’s] the alpha of our pack and the friendliest [dog] ever. Before Deputy can enter, they must meet before quarantine,” Smith explained in an Instagram video.
When Kumo saw Deputy, he extended his paw through the fence, welcoming him to the sanctuary.
Finding Love and Safety

After completing quarantine, Deputy met the other residents, who were thrilled to welcome him. He quickly fit in and enjoyed sprinting with his new friends.
Deputy, now free and happy, loves snuggling with Smith and giving her sweet hugs. His once sad face now beams with joy, and his eyes sparkle with happiness. The love and safety he found at the Texas sanctuary transformed him into a confident and joyful dog.
Without a doubt, Deputy will soon find a loving home and wonderful parents who will cherish him as he deserves.
