Every day, we hear about the growing endangerment of animals and overcrowded shelters. Yet, many heartless individuals still mistreat their pets, with abandonment being one of the most devastating acts.
Sadly, this cruelty often escalates, especially with those who breed dogs for profit. Their focus on money rather than the love these creatures possess can lead to tragic outcomes.
This was the case when rescuers discovered three trembling puppies outside the Paterson shelter. Their story serves as a powerful lesson for us all.

On March 22, 2024, Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge (RBARI), a rescue organization in Oakland, New Jersey, shared a dramatic announcement on Facebook.
“!! Urgent Rescue in Progress ‼️ Sick puppies dumped outside Paterson shelter!” they posted.
The puppies were in dire condition—cold, sickly, and malnourished.
Believed to be a micro breed of Boston terrier, they were approximately eight weeks old and all male. There was no sign of their mother or any information about her or other puppies.
Despite this, the rescuers acted swiftly, rushing the puppies to the hospital for immediate care.

Later that day, after bringing the puppies to the hospital, RBARI shared an update on Facebook. Fortunately, the news was positive.
“The three tiny micro-Boston pups abandoned outside in the cold are now stable and receiving the medical care that had been so neglected,” they wrote.
In their honor, the puppies were named Alvin, Simon, and Theodore. All three were extremely malnourished with pot bellies and suffering from an upper respiratory illness.
It became clear that these puppies were products of microbreeding by profit-hungry individuals, and their illness had led them to be abandoned.
“In the world of backyard breeding, you can’t sell a sick dog,” they explained.
This only strengthened their resolve to help the puppies. They provided medication, tender loving care, and high-quality food, leading to significant improvement.
Soon, the puppies were placed in out-patient care in a medical foster home, where they received even more love and care, aiding their recovery.
“Alvin, Simon, and Theodore are finally being doted on as precious lives instead of a rejected commodity,” RBARI posted.
A Heartbreaking Twist

The rescuers knew the puppies faced a tough recovery due to their health issues. With the dedication of their caregivers, things seemed hopeful, and everyone anticipated a happy ending.
“All three pups are spunky, running around, wrestling, and playing hide and seek one minute – then snuggling and giving love the next,” RBARI updated in another Facebook post.
However, just when it seemed nothing could go wrong, tragedy struck.
“Yesterday, Alvin, one of the three puppies we recently rescued, passed away,” RBARI shared in a heart-wrenching post on April 1, 2024.
Alvin had a severe cleft palate, congenital hydrocephalus, and other defects affecting his neurological function—all results of poor breeding practices.
Despite the heartbreak, Alvin’s caregivers shared his story to prevent future suffering for other puppies.
After reading this story, it’s up to us to decide if we value a few extra dollars in our pockets or a heart filled with joy because one little life continues to thrive.
