This was Chewie’s reality, a sweet eight-year-old dog abandoned after his family moved away from their rental home.
Chewie struggled with this sudden change. He had no family, no love, and no one to look after his health. Fortunately, amazing rescuers found him, giving him a makeover and a life truly worth living.
A Much-Needed Makeover

At the shelter, Mel, the kind-hearted groomer, greeted Chewie with open arms and a heavy heart. She was stunned that anyone could abandon such a cute boy, letting him get into such a poor state.
Mel quickly began working on him, hoping he would allow her to give him a bath and a much-needed haircut.
Since matted fur can conceal wounds, fleas, and skin issues, groomers must be very careful not to cause further harm.
Mel carefully started trimming the mats covering Chewie’s face before moving to those on his body. She was astonished to discover a large tummy hidden beneath the fur.

“There’s something surprising that she notices almost right away. Even though he was abandoned, he is overweight. A severely overweight dog is just as much a sign of neglect,” Rocky Kanaka noted in a TikTok video.
Another noticeable issue was an ulcerated eye, likely caused by an injury, attack from another animal, or physical abuse.
Despite everything, Chewie’s behavior during his spa day was incredible. His haircut, bath, and drying process went smoothly, leaving everyone at the shelter in awe.
Mel made sure to shower him with positive affirmations throughout, letting him know what a good boy he was.

Once clean, dry, and groomed, with combed, shiny fur, trimmed nails, and even a shaped mustache, Chewie’s true beauty emerged.
It was no surprise when Frosted Faces Foundation, a nonprofit animal rescue in Ramona, California, decided to take Chewie into their loving care.
Now, Chewie is enjoying his days at the California rescue, having fun and patiently waiting for a loving family to give him the happy life he always deserved.
