Heartbroken Dog Left to Die Finds the Loving Home He Deserves

Logan was always a loyal companion, whether it was to his fellow furry friends or the forever family that eventually became his own.

Discovered as a stray in Texas, Logan was found alongside his pregnant mate. The puppies were his, and Logan, showing remarkable loyalty, stayed by her side throughout the birth.

When the puppies were born, a rescue group came to take the mother and her six pups, but heartbreakingly, they didn’t want Logan. He was left behind, abandoned, and marked to be euthanized.

Logan was on the brink of being euthanized in a Texas high-kill shelter. But fate intervened when a compassionate shelter worker recognized something special in him. This worker managed to delay his euthanasia not once, but twice, giving Logan a glimmer of hope.

This precious time allowed for Logan to be transported to a shelter in Colorado. There, Logan’s fortunes changed when a loving couple decided to adopt him.

“We went to meet him, and I remember thinking, ‘We just found our dog.’ He was skinny, scared, timid—all of it,” Alison Dickson, Logan’s new mom, shared with GeoBeats Animals.

For the first few days in his new home, Logan remained withdrawn and shy, fearful of making a mistake that could result in him being abandoned once more.

But his new parents were avid nature enthusiasts, and living in Colorado, they decided to take Logan hiking. This turned out to be the turning point in Logan’s life.

As his confidence grew, Logan began to realize that he had finally found his forever family—a family that would never leave him behind.

“He’s an incredible athlete. The moment he sees my hiking bag, he just lights up,” Alison said.

After Logan was adopted, the family expanded, welcoming another rescue dog named Phoenix and two cats, Milo and Lucy.

“Phoenix is this little bundle of joy who has no idea she’s a rescue,” Alison added. She fit perfectly into the family, and Logan quickly became best friends with her—and even with the cats.

Alison works from home, but her husband often travels for work. During these times, Logan steps up as the protector of the family.

“He loves my husband so much. It’s like Logan thinks he works for him. When my husband is away, Logan sleeps on the side of the couch that faces the door. He’s more alert, more watchful,” Alison explained.

Alison fondly compares Logan to Gandalf from Lord of the Rings—a true protector with a heart full of deep emotions.

Since his adoption, Logan has experienced so much—sniffing and exploring new places and things. He is, at last, a truly happy dog.

“From a stray on the streets of Texas, to the euthanasia list in a shelter (💔!!), to the amazing people and rescue that brought him into our lives…my world is a tremendously better place with Logan in it,” Alison expressed in a heartfelt Instagram post.
