No dog should ever endure the agony of being abandoned. The fear and confusion that come with such a traumatic experience can leave emotional scars that may last a lifetime.
When Mia, a sweet Pitbull, was abandoned by her owner in the dead of night in Newark, New Jersey, she was utterly lost and confused. Tied to a fence, she had nothing but a small blanket, a little food, and some water to keep her company.
A Heartbreaking Realization

Her owner had vanished, leaving Mia in the cold, dark night. She waited, hopeful that someone would return for her. But that moment never came.
Rescue Just in Time
Fortunately, compassionate souls noticed Mia’s dire situation, and help was on the way. Yasmin, a dedicated volunteer with Jersey Pits Rescue in New Jersey, rushed to the scene. The sight of Mia alone and abandoned broke Yasmin’s heart.
“I received a call about an abandoned Pitbull. They left her here with just a blanket, some food, and water,” Yasmin shared with The Dodo.
Despite the heartbreaking circumstances, Mia’s spirit remained unbroken. She immediately warmed up to Yasmin, wagging her tail and flashing her savior the most heartwarming smile. It was as if Mia knew, deep down, that everything would be okay – and she was right!
Mia, the Instant Sweetheart
Since it was late at night, Yasmin decided to spend the night with Mia in her car, unsure of how her other dogs might react to the new arrival. Together, they shared the night, bonding over treats that Mia eagerly devoured.
The following morning, Mia received a flea treatment and was introduced to a temporary home – Yasmin’s own residence.
“Mia is the sweetest, most precious little soul we’ve ever met. We can’t fathom how a dog abandoned in such a way could still be so resilient and loving,” the rescue shared in a heartfelt Facebook post.
Mia quickly adjusted to her new surroundings. It was clear she had once been a beloved pet, as she exhibited perfect manners and exceptional social skills.
“She’s very low maintenance and content just to be around her people. She walks beautifully on a leash, takes treats gently, and absolutely LOVES kids! Mia is comfortable in her crate and knows to use the bathroom outside,” her rescue noted.
Mia showered everyone with love and even showed no reaction to Yasmin’s cat or other animals. She was a true lover at heart, especially with kids, whom she adored.
All Mia had ever wanted was attention – and now, she had plenty of it!
A New Chapter with Her Forever Dad

After just a few days with her new mom, Mia’s life took a wonderful turn. The rescue found her the perfect foster dad, David, who was eager to welcome her into his home.
From the moment they met, Mia knew she had found her person. She ran straight into David’s arms, melting into him as if they had known each other forever. It was love at first sight, and Mia clung to David as if she never wanted to let go.
Even though Mia loved the other family members, no one could compare to her bond with David. Eventually, Mia became a “foster fail” – a term used affectionately when a foster family decides to adopt the dog for good.
Now, Mia’s life is filled with adventures and love alongside her forever family. And the best part? She never has to worry about being abandoned again. Her days of uncertainty are behind her, and her future is bright with happiness and love.
