Forgotten and Alone Shelter’s Longest Resident Overlooked

Animal shelters work tirelessly to ensure every fur baby in their care finds a loving forever home. One way they introduce their residents to potential adopters is through special adoption events. When Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) in Orlando, Florida, organized such an event, they knew exactly who they wanted to spotlight.

Among the adorable puppies and small, hypoallergenic dogs, there was a special pup who had been waiting the longest—a sweet soul who dreamt of being part of a loving family.

This incredible Pittie mix named Baby Girl arrived at the Orlando shelter after being rescued from a life-threatening situation.

“Someone witnessed a timid dog attempting to cross a busy interstate. They managed to stop her and get her safely into their car, likely saving her life,” OCAS shared on Facebook.

As soon as Baby Girl was brought in, her rescuer rushed her to the OCAS headquarters, where she received the warmest welcome possible.

After settling into her new environment, Baby Girl met the OCAS veterinary team, who gave her a thorough medical examination. The results? She was a healthy 9-year-old girl with a heart full of love to give.

“She is sweet and gentle with people and has shared her space with other dogs. We don’t know much about her past life or how long she was a stray. But one thing is certain: she deserves better than to spend her senior years in our kennels,” OCAS wrote on Facebook.

A Temporary Home

Despite the staff’s unwavering efforts to find Baby Girl a loving home, they decided that a foster home would help her relax and decompress in the meantime.

Fortunately, one of their volunteers, Su Morrison, had fallen completely in love with Baby Girl and was thrilled to welcome her into her home as a foster parent.

The change in environment worked wonders for this precious pup. Moving away from the loud noises of the kennel and into a warm, loving home allowed Baby Girl to truly blossom, showing her foster family just how lovable she was.

“Having Baby in our home … it’s a pleasure. The longer she stays, the more we see what an absolute goofball she is. She is such a happy girl,” Morrison shared with OCAS, later posted on Facebook.

A Second Chance

Although Baby Girl was comfortable in her foster home, she never gave up on her dream of finding her forever family. So, when the time came for another adoption event, the OCAS made sure she was front and center, hoping that someone would finally notice her and take her home.

But heartbreakingly, that didn’t happen. At the event, not a single person stopped by her kennel to say hello. Everyone walked right past her, leaving Baby Girl feeling deeply depressed and overlooked.
