When a tiny, adorable puppy named Jammy arrived at Marin Humane, an independent nonprofit rescue in Novato, California, he instantly stole everyone’s hearts. His infectious smile and endearing personality made him an instant favorite among the staff.
However, Jammy was more than just cute—he was also quite chubby, and the shelter team knew they had to help him shed some pounds.
Meet Jammy

Jammy was surrendered to the Novato shelter after his owner could no longer care for him. At that time, he weighed a hefty 17.6 pounds. For a dog of his size, his ideal weight was closer to ten pounds, making him significantly overweight. Jammy found it hard to move around, so being carried everywhere was his favorite pastime.
But weight wasn’t Jammy’s only challenge. During a routine checkup, the staff discovered 13 bladder stones that needed to be removed immediately. Despite these health issues, Jammy never let anything dampen his spirit.
His charming personality made him a joy to be around, and he quickly bonded with everyone he met. “Jammy is a delightful, funny little guy. He’s friendly, easy-going, and social with everyone he’s encountered. He also has some quirky habits; for instance, he loves playing with a cat wand toy! Despite all the medical handling he’s had to endure, Jammy has been an absolute superstar,” shared Julia Lamont, social media and marketing specialist at Marin Humane, in an interview with The Dodo.
Searching for a Forever Home

After undergoing surgery to remove his bladder stones, Jammy spent time in a loving foster home to recover. The nurturing environment helped him bounce back quickly, and soon enough, Jammy was back at the shelter, eagerly waiting for a forever home.
In the meantime, he’s gradually losing his extra weight and dreaming of an active family that will help him become as healthy as he is happy. Jammy is a master snuggler and loves soaking up the sun on walks, often pulling his human companion in whichever direction his nose takes him.
Jammy is also quite vocal when it’s time to eat, making sure everyone knows his opinion about the food he’s served. Having lived with other animals, he would surely enjoy the companionship of a furry sibling for fun and adventurous playdates.
All in all, this sweet boy is a true gentleman who longs for a loving family to call his own.
