All Kelly, a sweet and affectionate pup, ever wanted was love and a family. Instead, what she received was heart-wrenching rejection.
Kelly’s previous owner, a heartless breeder, used her solely for profit. When Kelly was no longer deemed useful, they cruelly abandoned her. Hungry and sorrowful, Kelly wandered the streets, desperately seeking compassion and kindness.
As she roamed, Kelly held onto the hope that someone would notice her plight and offer her the love she so badly needed. Despite her previous mistreatment, Kelly believed that there were still good humans out there.
Kelly Finds Temporary Comfort at the Shelter

Her saviors, the dedicated rescuers from the Humane Society of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, found Kelly and immediately brought her to safety. Their hearts shattered upon seeing how malnourished and neglected she was.
At the shelter, Kelly quickly won over the staff with her endearing personality. She craved affection and thrived on the cuddles from her new friends.
“Kelly is an absolute love bug and enjoys being with people and getting affection. She is goofy and likes to play with chew toys and go for walks,” said Susan Leonti, the digital marketing specialist at the Humane Society of Broward County, in an interview with Newsweek.
Determined to find Kelly a loving home, the shelter staff shared her story on social media. The video showed a hopeful Kelly standing in her kennel, her tail wagging with anticipation.
A Glimpse of Happiness

A wonderful couple, looking to adopt their first dog together, saw Kelly’s video and immediately fell in love with her. The next day, they arrived at the shelter, eager to take Kelly home and shower her with the love she deserved.
On her adoption day, Kelly was overjoyed. Her face lit up as she ran to say goodbye to her shelter friends, excited for her new life.
Heartbreak Strikes Again

However, Kelly’s happiness was short-lived. Shortly after bringing her home, the couple discovered that one of them was severely allergic to dogs. With heavy hearts, they had no choice but to return Kelly to the shelter.
Kelly’s brief taste of happiness was cruelly snatched away. Back in her kennel, she felt utterly brokenhearted.
“Since being returned, Kelly has had such a sad and worried look on her face. When we walk by her kennel, she cries out to us and has a look of desperation in her eyes. It is simply heartbreaking to see,” Leonti shared.
Despite the affection from her shelter friends, Kelly dreams of having her own humans who will dote on her and make her truly happy.
