Children and dogs share a unique purity, their emotions genuine, their actions sincere. A young boy named Troy exemplified this innocent kindness in the sweetest way.

After noticing his neighbors’ adorable dog, Troy felt compelled to connect. Despite the world’s challenging circumstances at the time, he wanted to shower the pup with affection. This story takes place during the pandemic, a time of social distancing and safety measures. Yet, Troy found a way to befriend the pup next door through a simple yet touching gesture: a handwritten letter.

The pandemic brought many challenges but also highlighted the importance of connection. Feeling isolated from his friends, fourth-grader Troy discovered he wasn’t alone in his neighborhood. His next-door neighbors had a Golden Retriever pup named Arthur, affectionately known as Arthur the Floof.

Gathering his courage, Troy penned a heartfelt letter to Arthur’s owners. The note read:

“Hello neighbors, my name is Troy. I’m in 4th grade and I’m just wondering if maybe after this virus you need a dog sitter and if so, I can take your dog on walks and more.”

Written in red and blue, the note was a charming expression of Troy’s genuine love for dogs. Who could resist such a polite and caring request? Certainly not Arthur’s owners, who arranged a playdate for Troy and Arthur.

Arthur, the small pup, was thrilled to meet a new human friend. Despite the pandemic’s restrictions, Troy and Arthur managed to enjoy their time together while maintaining social distance. This pure and heartwarming friendship blossomed despite the challenges.

Arthur, sharing his excitement on Instagram, said, “I made friends with a small human today. He’s like basically my size. I bet I can get him to give me more treats than my humans.”

Though there are no photos of Troy and Arthur online to respect Troy’s privacy, the letter Troy wrote quickly went viral, making Arthur a minor celebrity. Arthur shared with his followers, “My humans told me that me and my friend Troy broke the internet yesterday.”

Much has changed since the pandemic. Arthur has grown into a beautiful Golden Retriever. His mom graduated, and they now live between Utah and Chicago, making Arthur a virtual world traveler and a superstar.

Arthur fondly remembers Troy and their special friendship. Although Troy is older now, Arthur loves to remind everyone of the little boy who understood him so well. Arthur posted, “For the last day before my birthday, I had to look back on the thing that brought me all you! Thanks to my pal down the hall I made so many internet friends this year. Just as an update, Troy and I hung out a lot before I moved to Utah! This will always be our favorite quarantine memory.”

Dogs like Arthur leave lasting impressions, and children like Troy grow up to be remarkable individuals. Their story, preserved through photos and videos on Instagram, continues to touch hearts. For more spooktastic content, head over to Arthur the Floof’s Instagram.
